How to get the Boho look without clutter
- One focal wall: a peel-and-stick terracotta arch mural behind the bed or sofa gives the room its center.
- A patterned rug (Moroccan-style or kilim) as the main pattern. Keep other patterns small.
- Natural texture: rattan or cane for one lamp, a headboard look or a chair, plus woven baskets for storage.
- Layered textiles: a mudcloth or fringed throw and two or three cushions in rust, cream and ochre.
- Plants in baskets: a monstera or trailing pothos, real or good faux.
Keep the palette tight
Choose three colors (for example terracotta, cream and olive) and let wood and rattan be the neutrals. Repeat the main accent at least three times across the room. This is what makes the examples below look intentional instead of busy, even though each one adds a lot of texture.
Boho in bedrooms vs living rooms
In a bedroom, focus the style on the bed wall and bedding and keep the rest calm, so the room still feels restful. In a living room you can spread it out more: rug, sofa textiles, a rattan lamp and a gallery of small prints. In a studio, one consistent Boho palette across bed and seating makes the space feel bigger.
